I"m trying to get the hydraulic rams working on our ca Allis. It had water in the trans from no shifter boot. Drained and flushed diesel fuel. I have no operation of the rams. Are the hydraulics using the same reservoir? We have and IT shop manual that shows the pump. I probably have to take the pump apart and inspect, correct?
Are there any surprises in there?

Did you remove 3 drain plugs to drain the tranny?
there is a dam between the rear and the pto unit to hold oil for the hydralics to operate. if you don't add enough fluid, none will get into the pto.
Also you may need to prime the pump. I removed 1 cylinder, pushed the ram in and put the hose in oil an pulled the ram out to fill it. then reinstalled it and with the hydralic lever down, push the ram in to force oil into the pump. Bob

Three plugs? I found only one in front of the drawbar where are the other two. How dose the fluid get to the pto housing?

like I said in my last post, there is a dam to hold the oil in the pto. it is part of the gasket seperating the pto from the rear. the pto gets filled when the fluid level is high enough to alow fluid to flow over the dam. There are three plugs that must be removed to drain all of the tranny fluid out of a b, c, or ca. 1 in the pto, 1 in the rear, and 1 in the tranny. Bob

Just a thought if you are a new owner of a CA you know you need to have the PTO and Pulley in gear for the hydraulic to work.

Bob, Yes I'm new to the CA. I grew up on a john deere farm. But my dad told me to engage the pto.

The pump on this is fairly simple just watch for the check valves. and yes the hydraulics run out of the rear end reservoir. was the hyds working before?

Allisnut. I'm correct in that the reservoir is all filled through the left side just behind the clutch pedal? My correct cap is long gone. how full is full? Unknown when it last worked. Could one or two of the pump plungers be stuck in?
