i have a 1950 model c i need help on what to do to restore it and how to do it, does anyone know of any useful books that will help me restore this tractor to its orignal condition? it was converted to a 12 volt system by the previous owner and i would like to convert it back to the original 6 volt also. i was also wondering if its smart to tear the whole motor down and rebuild it while im in the process? i know that it had ran something like 8-10 yrs ago, but has sat untouched since then i recently removed the sparkplugs and squirted some oil into each cylinder hoping that it would loosen up the pistons, i also took the carb bowl and the sediment bowl off and cleaned them the tank was empty and had a lil rust inside, i can get the motor to move a lil bit with the hand crank and with a wrench on the bottom pulley can get it to move backwards but it gets to a certain point and wont move anymore, whats the chances that theres a thin layer of rust in the cylinders and thats whats stopping them from completing the revoultion? also whats some good websites to order reproduction parts from, any help is appreciated

I have a good 6V gen., I think I have a coil too(if you have dist.) But I guess if you're going back to original you'll go/or stay with a mag.

First off you don't oil in the cylinder because it will not clean them up or unstick stuck parts well. I would fill each cylinder with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. I have probably 10 tractor here right now that I did that to and they all run well now but had been locked up and I never did any thing but that and a tune up and carb rebuild

Pull the valve cover and make sure you don't have a valve hanging up.
