well, I finally got the power steering done on my D-15. I bought the tractor about a year ago and the seller said it did not have power steering. I found out later that it did but was not working. I got the power steering working but the fluid would leak out overnight. I removed the front axle and pulled the PS unit out and took it abart and replaced the seal in the main unit. I put it back together and the tractor back together. The PS now works and is not leaking (knock on wood) Only took me about six months. A big thanks to Zack for some pictures and instructions and to Texas Denny for his help. Now to figure out where those four remaining bolts are supposed to go.

Jrry, I have the same problem with extra bolts but I know why for me. I have bunches of new bolts in parts drawers of all sizes and length. When I am reassembling, if I don't like the look of a bolt or its length or I can't find it quickly, I just get a new one. The left over count is the times I used a new bolt. I then chase the threads of the left over bolts/nuts and return them to inventory if they are good - toss if they aren't.

Glad you got it working. I remember when I bought my D-17, the power steering didn't work. I could hardly turn the wheel even when it was moving. Good PS will make a big difference in drive-ability.

Better look it over good. Other than the bolts that hold the tin every other bolt removed for this job must be put back. 3 in the steering valve
4 for the gear box
4 for the rear of front end support frame.
Can"t think of anything that takes four that you could of missed.
Time will tell.

You'll know when you back out of the shop and the frame falls off the front end.

Glad to hear that job is done. They are a real pain. I never want to pull a front off of a D17 again unless I'm getting paid.
