My baler will miss a knot on the right side every 20 or so bales. When I was checking it out I noticed the twine disc cleaner has a bit of play. Could this be the problem? If so, how do you tighten it up. Thanks

What it looks like is the knot is either partially pulled out, the loop is not completely tight, or its pulled out before the tying cycle is completed. It will sometimes do a hundred or so then miss, or miss a couple of times then tie okay for a bit.

The play is in the twine disc cleaner itself. If you grab hold of it you can twist it back and forth, so maybe a shim under it would help. I have a manual but it doesn't explain how to tighten the assembly. Is it possible that it gets out of time and doesn't push the twine out soon enough.

Mike that cleaner is at the start of the operation, it and the twine disc hold the twine until the knotter trips and ties, i'm not sure if it being loose would affect the knot. Does it miss the knot or hang on the bill hook or break the twine ? Have you sharpened the knives, does the wiper barely touch the bill hook to wipe the knot off ? Are the twine discs worn and are they adjusted correctly ? Have you tripped the knotter manually while turning the baler by hand to see if all rhe clearances are correct ? All the ideas i have, Most of the parts are interchangeable with a NH 315.

I have a 442 AC bailer I use every year for about 1000 bales. the only time it ever misses a knot is when the little 1/2 peaces of twine that come off the knotters build up. I don't think 20 bales is enough to cause a problem. another thing I learned is you must keep the twine box cover on. my hinge is broke and some times it falls off. Anther thing you might try is making sure the knotter is greased good. if the grease fitting is pluged. it will be running dry, my neighbor had that problem on a international bailer .
Good luck Ed

Mike if it is consistent at twenty +or - may just be twine problem. The manual mentions a rivet on the twine holder being bent to the right when it should be slightly to the left or straight ahead. Where is the play, is it in the cast holder or would a shim under the gear tighten it? Agco could get you the manual you will definitely need it if you ever have to retime.
