My Allis G has zero hours on a completely rebuilt engine. Carburator and distributor have been rebuilt. Turns over nicely. Oil prerssure comes up nicely to 20 pounds. Plenty of spark at the spark plugs. Tried starting the tractor today and all I could get out of it was a loud backfire back through the air cleaner and a voluminous amount of smoke out the muffler.....then nothing. The backfire into the air cleaner caused the loss of quite a bit of oil out the top of the air cleaner. Where do I go from here? Thanks.

Are you sure you have the plug wires in the correct firing order? Should be 1-3-4-2, but you need to see which way the rotor turns. When you reinstalled the distributor, did you have No1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke? Your distributor may not be in time with No1 piston and you can still have fire at the plugs, but the firing is at the wrong time and to the wrong plug.

Firing order on the G is 1-3-4-2

It is a Continental engine not an Allis.

I was reading two boards on the firing order of the G firing order and posted without re reading your actual post. I knew you were one that had it right when I first read it. I lost my line of thought reading the other board, I guess. Sorry!

I will take my lashing because I have it coming.
