I unhooked one hose fromcylinder and arms lowered fine. As soon as tractor started the arms went to up position immediatly and would not lower.I followed the lever from the steering wheel and it moves two contraptions ,one on the transmission and the other obove that where the one hydroulic hose enteres. The top one seems to move freely when you disconnect the rod, is that suppose to do something. If I remove those to top bolts should I be able to possibly see the problem or should I look elsewhere? Thankyou very much in advance for any information.

You have broken springs in the pump. I experienced the same problem years ago.

Like Duey said, try the adjustment screw. My grandfather did this to our WD and it solved the problem.

There is a decal on the right side of the battery box that describes how to set the hydraulic system for various operations. But it sounds like you really need to buy an OPERATOR manual for the tractor. That explains how to operate everything on the tractor.

Sounds like a problem I had with mine. Underneath the tractor on the right hand side you should be able to notice a link (kind boomerang shaped piece) that goes frome the big spring set up just above the front end of the drawbar. This is what triggers the traction booster operation. On the upper end of that link you will see a slot that fits over a stud on what the book calls " shaft and lever". Notice where the shaft fits into the lever (kinda a triangular oval shaped piece). On mine the lever was slipping on the shaft. This activated the pump and caused it to raise as soon as the tractor started even thought the control lever was down. When shut of the arms would go down. Hope I have been able to explain good enough that with a parts diagram you can see what I am talking about.

first off get a owners and shop manual for your tractor, these will tell you how to correct the problem, sounds as if the linkage is out of adjustment.

Paul,
You can try turning the adjustment screw on the front of the pump in and then back out. This moves a rack of valves inside the pump. If this works, then the problem is a spring washer that is in the rack. This washer disintegrates over time and small bits of it bind the rack of valves in the bore of the pump. Time for a overhaul of the pump. This link has a drawing of the pump.
