I was wondering if anyone knew of a gear-reduction starter setup that would work on a WD-45? Thanks!

Actually, you shouldn't need a gear reduction starter for a tractor if the Delco starter that came in it is rebuilt correctly. Most of the armatures in starter motors are tired out and have opens in them and need to be rewound. The field coils are usually right behind. 50+ years does take its toll on the arm in a unit. Ten out of ten starters I do, have a bad arm in them. When these are re-done, torque is restored in the unit, and the unit is able to spin over even a pulling tractor engine with a stout compression ratio even with a not so good pinch bolt mounting system. The price of coarse isn't cheap mainly because of the parts involved, but it can been done. The other factor brought into the equation is what Denny mentioned. Big time cables to transfer peak power is also just as important as the starter being right on especially for a serious pulling engine. 1 gauge cables are the norm for this application, but this could be the case of "bigger is better". Of coarse, your power supply (battery) should be stout as well so when its called upon for power, there's plenty of power for the starter to draw upon... HTH Steve@B&B

You don't say what your issue is. I'm going to guess that it is not turning over fast enough. The starter on the WD-45 (when grounded properly) will provide years and years of trouble free service with either a six or twelve volt system. A gear reduction starter is not necessary. When using a 6 volt battery, the cables must be large - 1 AWG minimum but 0 AWG or 00 AWG are much better. And the connections must be very clean. With 12 Volt, I'd still recommend 2 AWG or 4 AWG.

I'm sorry, I don't know of any gear reduction starter for the WD tractors.

I have gotten ahold of a large cubic inch pulling tractor and need something that can spin it over faster than my current set-up. I assumed someone out there has ran into this problem before me and might have suggestion?
