Help: Model B , what size clutch pressure plate bolts?

Hi,
While putting my '50 model B back together this past weekend, I found the screws that attach the pressure plate to the flywheel were stripped. Actually, I think the flywheel threads are stripped. Arrrrgh. So, it was late in the day, I left it to ponder. I decided to do a helicoil repair to the flywheel. Problem is, I can't get back to the farm where the tractor is until maybe this weekend, and I want to start getting parts now. What size are the 6 bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel? thread and length? I'm going to buy a helicoil kit, and 6 grade 8 bolts. Thanks!!!

Okay, In the interest of closure, I've found out what the problem was. I went out tonight to the farm and with the help of my son and bro in law, we took the engine off. I took off the pressure plate and flywheel and I took it home with the expectation of drilling, tapping and helicoiling. But when I saw the original bolts, I noticed again that only the threads near the heads were deformed. I looked at the threads in the flywheel and it appeared they were all fine except some had the top two or three threads damaged. Well, then it was fairly obvious the bolts had stretched. A couple of them really far. The threads were not only damaged, but spread out. Picture attached. I've never seen bolts stretch like this. I've sure had them snap, but never stretch. I can only imagine they're poor quality and very soft. They have no markings. But I've noticed most bolts on this ol' B have no markings. So, I will not re-tap even though a few holes have two or so damaged threads, I will only replace the bolts with grade 8's. Thanks for the help! I can only wonder what's next!

Grade 8 bolts will stretch. It is common to remove head bolts that the threads have been stretched on 60 to 70 year old tractors. A grade eight will stretch easier than a grade two. The grade 2 will twist off with over torquing.

I'm not sure I would trust a helicoil for the pressure plate. I would probably try to tap them out to the next largest size, if possible. If you are going to use helicoils, I suggest you only do the ones that are stripped. Just my two cents.

Thanks guys,
The bolts were pretty tired looking, meaning the few threads up near the head were worn. This suggested to me that they were loose at some point in the past and the clutch cover shifted around creating the wear. So, when I put it together, even though I don't have a torque spec, I tried torquing the bolts to 35 foot pounds. Two of the bolts kept spinning and would not "click" the torque wrench. I took the bolts out, and the lower threads were fine. It was getting late so I just torqued them to 25 ftlbs, and put the engine on. But it bugged me so I decided to fix this problem rather than let it go as is. I hope to get back to take the engine off ASAP and investigate further. I'll post back with what I find.

I think Dick is correct on the size. I also have never seen them stripped in the flywheel but have seen the bolt striped or broken.

5/16 NC X 3/4 long I think. I know they are 5/16 but not sure on the length. I have not seen a flywheel with the bolt threads stripped. Broken off yes. Anything can be possible. I use grade 8 for replacement bolts
