Info on AC 200 power director.

I was looking at a AC 200 the other day. When I was test driving it the power diretor would slip on the low side starting out on a hill in 7th gear but it would pull the engine down on the high side. To me this says that it has a bad power director. How expensive are they to replace and what would you think the tractor was worth? The turbo diesel engine ran perfect no leaks of any kind. The engine has rebuilt injection pump and injectors. The tach which works was showing around 6500 hrs. They were asking 4500.00 for the tractor. Thanks for your imput. John

I just had to get plates for the high side on mine. I split the tractor and took the whole power director to the allis dealer. $350 for new plates, sealing rings, and an hour labor to put it back together. Now I just need to put the tractor back together. It sounds like mabey just the linkage on yours.

All a power director is, is when you put it into low range it sends hydraulic fluid to one end of the power director and the fluid pushes a piston which compresses the clutch plates together which turn the low speed hub gear. The same thing happens when you put it into high range, just it happens on the other end of the power director and turns the high speed hub gear. The linkage could be out of adjustment/worn, the sealing rings between the piston and housing could not be sealing (broken or grooves worn into the housing) or the clutch plates are shot. Thats all there is to the power director. If you need to replace the housings, pistons, sealing rings, clutch plates, return springs your somewhere around $3,000. I just bought all that stuff and the hub gears and a bearing retainer...it was $4,300.
