I think you are on the right track. As to removing the feed tube: I have a set of screwdriver type nut drivers. The end of the tube will insert up the center hollow shaft. I (always) take a burnzamatic torch and heat the cast area around the feed tube threads before I start to turn feed tube out. No heat on the feed tube itself. Before I started to use heat I twisted some off. If the power jet gives any resistance I heat the outside of the area to loosen the brass power jet also. I started this when I found out a shop the rebuilds carburetors bakes them in an oven and removes the inserts while still warm.

With the feed tube and power jet out I run small drill bits by hand in the holes to make sure all the sticky stuff and carbon is out.

This is after soaking them in a basket of NAPA carb cleaner. After inserts removed and the drill bits used I soak again and then flush with water and blow them dry.

Yes, I have one of those tools now. On that first carb, I did not. So it took a very long time to get that goo out of the pipe. I've never twisted a pipe off - just lucky, I guess. Drill bits work good for cleaning a stuck one. That goo even comes off the bits with some difficulty.
