side engine weights on B

Hello A-C lovers. I've owned a "B" for many years, don't work it any more after older restoration. Question: Mine has both the right & left engine side weights. I never see them on other B's, but only on C's. Is mine a fluke? Was this an option on B's? Mine's a 1939.

Hey thanks guys for the info. My right side weight does not have the chamfer. I never knew that there was such a thing as a front axle weight! I'll be looking out for them now! Can you show a pic of it? Sam

Thanks Sam. At least now I know I am not the only one with different right and left side weights. I think the earlier ones were like that. Later ones and, as far as I know, all repro weights have identical weights for both sides. That is to say, both weights have the chamfer and the chamfer winds up on top on the right side and on the bottom on the left side. I believe the chamfer is to provide clearance for the B steering linkage.

The front "wishbone" axle weights for the B look like this.

Hi Sam,

The side engine weights for the "B" were an option and are quite handy for keeping the front end on the ground when using mounted implements. My 1939 B has a weight that hangs from the front axle, but my 1940 has the side engine weights. These front axle weights are much harder to find as they were only found on the very early Bs.

Hi Sam,

No, yours is not a fluke. They were always an option with the B and were used with the two-way pick-up plows. My '42B has had the side weights since it was new:

I'm curious though if your right side weight lacks the bottom chamfer like mine does. Many will say that both weights have the chamfer (are indentical - and many are, especially the repros), but it wasn't always that way.
