I have been trying to get a friends B straightened out and its got the cutout. When I remove the battery cable it archs. I have replaced the battery and the cutout. The generator charges at about 20 amps. I ran it about 15 minutes today and kept up the rate of charge. The battery had been pulled down some because the starter had to be changed up. This is my first time messing with a cutout the rest of my old iron has voltage regulators.There is very little the same as original on the electrical,has push button start, and a replacement light switch if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated would like to get this thing done so I could piddle with some of my own. Thanks,TC

without a voltage regulator, you still need to open the charge circuit when the motor is off, and you need to control the current rate of charge.... the cutout is just a relay (coil) that opens the points when the generator voltage falls below the battery voltage, meaning the motor has stopped running.... the charge rate for the generator is controlled by the old light switch, it had a BIG resiston on the back that was connected to the "F" wire on the generator. When the lights were on, the F was grounded to the tractor frame and you get full charge, about 8 amps... when the lights are off, the resistor is in the F line to ground giving it a "poor" ground and you get about 3 amps charge.... this is a "cheap" way to replace a voltage regulator..... to test, you can ground the F wire to ground, and the A wire goes thru the cutout to the amp meter, then to the battery. the wire from the generator to cutout should not be hot when motor is off. (points are open).

Thanks for the help. I found an old voltage regulator that came off either a farmall or oliver that I put an alternator on and got it wired up and seems to work fine. Now I guess the little B is updated with a push buttom start and a voltage Regulator and ready to go home. Thanks for the help, TC
