I recently bought this tractor only to find 4 ltrs of water in the crankcase and water in the transmission/diff. I changed both and it seems the previous owner musta left the oil fill cap off and water got in that way cause I don,t see the level in the rad changing after I ran it for a couple hrs.The diff also had water when i chnaged it and I changed it agin when the clutch wouldn,t engage, thinking somehow the wrong oil mite not let it go into gear.
Still no action with the clutch so thats my next project. no pressure when I push the clutch in. no resistance. I can jam it into gear if I throttle down to almost stalling, so I,m thinking somehow at this exact time the clutch decided to give up the ghost.
Anyone have any suggestions? everything was working fine till I changed the oil in the trans. I,m stumped.
I have the service manual ordered and it will be here this week,I hope.

I had a similar problem on a C that I worked on. There is a clutch fork inside the bell housing that presses on the throw out bearing when you step on the clutch pedal. Part of this assembly can be lubricated from the outside and part cannot. At any rate, the fork assembly had some serious problems on my C (C and CA are identical on these parts). I had to rebuild the fork.

I don't remember any inspection plate on the CA for checking these parts. Possibly, removing the starter may provide an opening where you can use a mirror and see if the fork is moving the throw out bearing. If there isn't any resistance to the pedal, the fork is probably the culprit. I had to split the tractor.

This will look very complicated to your wife but it really isn't. The tractor must be split at the bell housing to fix the fork assembly. Good luck with her on this. This is very simple with an engine hoist. More complicated with jacks. With jacks, I support the engine so it can't tip over and then roll the rear axle away from the engine. I put a floor jack on a plank for the rear. You can remove the front tires and turn them around - this helps for tipping.

I got a non-running tractor. I noticed the problem before I put the engine back on the bell housing and fixed it. Took me about an hour and didn't spend any money. Just used my wire feed welder to build up a couple of spots on the fork. This was probably why the tractor was parked. I didn't find anything else that would have prevented use.

Your clutch problem and the transmission oil is not connected. If you feel no resistance at all when you press the pedal you should check to make sure you do not have a pin sticking out on the side of the torque tube. There is a pin that shows on both sides that sometimes works to one side or even sometimes will wear thru that works the throw out bearing assembly. When the clutch plate sticks to the flywheel you can still feel the pressure plate springs.
The clutch rod threads can strip inside that assembly also. When that happens most of the time the rod will hit the pressure plate and make a noise.

Wives can get that way sometimes. Check her knuckles, if she don't have any skinned up knuckles she will probly live thru it. (:^D

there is an inspection hole on a CA you have to crall under the tractor and there is supost to be a plate that is held on by a spring like clip it just pulls off and you can see if you are moving the presher plate or what ever there is also the clutch ajustment there it is 1/4 in free travel befor it hits the fingers I did this in 98 or 99 so I dont remember the terms but it is all in the owners manual or the servis manual I have both at the farm

1755..can I adjust the clutch without separating the tractor? still not sure the clutch is the problem,yet.

Yes you are abel to ajust it threw the botom hole that I was talking about when I ajusted mine it was to late for the clutch but I tried any way with no luck tried a few times with nothing the last atempt ended up striping out one of the ajusting bolts and braking one of the fingers so I had to put in a new clutch the fingers were so thin from ware that one broke off so becarful also back then this was in 2000 or so it was cheper for me to take it to a non spicific dealer that works on any thing to have them do the hole job than I could by the clutch and presher plate so check around if you have second thoughts about spliting it your self I have never split one but have herd it is dangerous
