I am having trouble with the engine clutch on my D-17 IV Diesel. The clutch will not disengage. I had the clutch rebuilt and have double checked all of clearances in the clutch geometry. The splines on the input shaft were worn; So,I ground the splines to ensure proper operation. I cannot find any clearance problems. Is there something else that I should be looking for? What about the hydraulic pump shaft? Can it cause a problem rotating around the input shaft? Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks , Eugene

I fought this for two years. Put in new clutch while doing major overhaul. Had the tractor apart 7 or 8 times. The people who redid the clutch disk put on a lining that was too thick. After putting the right lining on it, I have 5 hrs on it, now seems to be ok.

How about the pilot bearing in the flywheel? If it is stuck, the shaft will turn with the clutch disengaged.
If you put it in gear with the engine off, does it continue to 'drive' with the clutch released?
There might be a bearing between the pump shaft and transmission shaft, I am not sure, but that could also be seizing if there was one.
