Do I have to remove the pin holding the foot brake lever to roll the new brake pad around the drum? I have already removed the brake pad anchor pin and old brake pad. It appears that the new pad will be damaged if I force it around the drum with the foot brake lever pin in place.

the new bands are going to be tight to install. make sure no mouse next or dirt in the hole. wash with soapy water - hose if needed.. get a coat hanger and curve it and feed it thru the hole and out the other side. tie it to the brake band and pull backward as you push the brakes into the hole. sometimes putting a loop on the wire and sticking a pry bar thru it will allow you to get more pulling leverage. might try rolling the tire a little as you go to move the brake drum around.

Thanks, in effect that is what I did. I used some wire and pulled at the same time I tapped lightly on the pad until it turned the "corner". Rotating the wheel hub did not help in my case. I did not have enough hands to do all the things that would have helped. I was plesantly suprised when I attempted to remove the pin on the brake lever. It came out by hand once the keeper was removed. I guess the brake lever rotating around it over the years kept it from binding.

Yes, I knew the answer but I wanted you to tell me before I tackled another pin. By the way, I am purchasing a maintemance manual.
