I have a 1977 7060 with around 5000hrs, and it is real stiff moving the SLOW/FAST lever out of SLOW range. If I put the main shift lever in neutral it is somewhat easier to shift out of SLOW but it is still stiff. I don"t think there are any adjustments I can do, but I thought I would ask, and maybe some can tell me if this is the nature of this trans. or if there is something I can do differently in the every day use of the machine. It is also stiff in PARK, but putting the main shift lever in neutral makes it easier to go IN and OUT of PARK. thanks for any comments...Phil

i believe that with the hi, lo & park you have a power director. i have a 7080 and had same problem. under seat of cab you can trace cable to hi lo cable. there is an adjusting nut. use penetrating oil overnite and then adjust it am.
it will need periodic adjustment as it is a cable
linkage. should take 15 minutes. well worth the time.

I"m going to disconnect the cable from the trans. and see how free the cable moves. I think it will go very easy because once the lever is moved from the slow to the high position or vise versa, in between it moves very easy, even up to the notch where you can put it in park. If I place the main trans. in neutral things move a little easier, and if I apply the foot brakes the console lever seem to sometimes slide into the slow, fast, neutral, park positions easier. Yes it has the 20 speed trans. with the Hi Lo buttons on the cab floor, and they work ok if you slack off on the power when pressing the buttons.

Cobcrusher, I think you're right because the power shift lever should have four locations 1-2-3-4 with a four main gear changes with reverse making it a sixteen speed. The power director should be a two range with park then 5 speed shift lever either on the floor or right console with button on the floor. The key quetion is does it have two buttons on the floor?

Sounds like you need a new cable.

maybe you could try spraying it with a lot of penetrating oil first to loosen thngs up a bit. I know what you mean though, adjustment is there but very hard to do. perhaps a new cable would take care of it. hope this helps, ray
