Hi all Thinking about having my 190xt series 3 rebuilt. I am getting a lot of blow by. after hard use I get oil puddles under the blow by hose. I can see it dripping. I think this means a valve job. What else does this entail? How much $$$$$$$$$ should I expect to pay? Need to keep wife informed or else. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ross Johnson

if it still starts and runs good and does not use mutch oil leave it alone. you could spend 3-10k to do a good job depending what you find in there. i had a 200 on the dyno one time with so mutch blowby that it blew dirt on the ground under the hose. it still had ok power and starting was not a problem so he took it home. odvisouly not a front line tractor but functional

Ross, not that it matters now but a couple questions did you buy it new and what oil has been used in it like 15-40 or 10-40 and changed on a regular basis? Just curious.

I owned an XT back in the late 70"2 and early 80"s. Dripping oil out the breather was a common issue on the XT and my father"s 190. Most of those tractors are old enough that the cork plug on the ends of the rocker arm shaft are deteriorated. I ended up replacing both the shaft and rocker arms on mine. Things were just wore enough that there was too much oil topside. That was the end of the issue.

Blow-by IS NOT a Valve Problem. It is a ring sealing problem. At the least you will need to replace the rings and hone the sleeves. You should while you are there replace the rod bearings, remove the sleeves and reposition them in the block and replace the O-Rings. If you you do this out fo frame, have the crank turned, all new bearings and also replace the cam bearings.
