I know this is a common problem but now it is happening to me. Gears 4-6(which I assume is referred to as 3rd?)pop out going down hill. How expensive is the fix and are the gears out there?
Can a shadetree mechanic with a manual tackle this or leave it to a pro? Thanks

I had the same problem with my 190XT. I bought the service manual and am rebuilding the whole tractor back to new. So far I have it torn down, completely, the whole tractor. I've bought every shaft, gear, bearing, seal, etc. (new parts) for the trans except the axles, the main housing and the bull gears. It has cost me around $5,000 to $6,000 I forget exactly. It's very easy to work on. All you need to do is follow instructions, have some sort of lift, a few tools and alittle mechanical ability. I plan on rebuilding the torque tube and the engine next, then all the little things, dash, front end, paint, etc. I estimate I'll have around $16,000-$18,000 total cost into the tractor when I'm finished. Brand new 100hp tractor for $18,000, you can't beat that. Plus you have the fun of working on it yourself.
