I replaced the 12 v distributor with a FB magneto on my 51 Model B . To time it I have set it up where the magneto impulse snaps just (on Number ONE)as the CENTER mark is visible in the window. But, it will not fire and I was wondering if I could get some good answers here.(I checked the plugs and the wires and the mag is putting out good spark all the way around.)
Lastly, i notices that the female end where the magneto mates up is a bit smaller than the same one that came with the magneto. thanks

If you took the factory distrubuter off you need to change the gear and shaft for a magneto. they are not the same.

Dakota;

Can you explain exactly what and how much I need to tear it down to replace the gear as you sugggest? It is good that I have the parts.
Thanks

Also make sure that #1 is on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke when the CENTER mark is visible.

DickL;

thaks for the response on timing of the mag.
So my other question is if the mag meets up mechanically with the female end on the engine it is a fair fit, yes? I ask as it appears that the governor gear (one run with the original 12 v distributor)is a bit smaller than the governor gear which came with this mag.
