Theres a local college that has a generator that they replaced, it's an Allis Chalmers that i've heard was made in the 50's or 60's I haven't seen it yet but it has and inline 6cyl GM Diesel. Can anyone tell me anything about this thing. engine specs is what i'm trying to find or if theres a tractor i can put it in. I believe i can get it cheap and it'll be a good engine for here on the farm. Any Help would be great
Mike

Allis-Chalmers used DD"s, jimmys in the construction equipment. None in farm tractor. They had to stop using DD when GM bought Euclid, a construction equipment competater, and would not supply Allis with engines. That in when Allis bought Buda for their Diesels. The engine in a WD-45D is a BUDA. I am no Allis expert but I think Allis only used the 71 series engines. A buddy had a HD-14 one time with a 6-71. A cousin had a I think HD-5 with a 3-71. For thosethat do not know that when you speak of DD series, the number before the DASH is the number of cylinders. The number after the DASH ie the CID of each cylinder. There is a DD forum on YAHOO if anyone is interested. Why do you nat save the whole unit. Sometimes a generator can save the day or week or mouth around the farm. Kent

Sorry but I don't about the GM engines that were used in generators, just crawers. I don't know if any GM engines were used in tractors.

In my other post I wanted to say I don't know if Allis Chalmers used any GM diesel engines in their farm tractors.

I think the Oliver 99 diesel was a Waukesha.

GM made alot of different 2 cycle diesel engines for the Allis Chalmers crawer.

They made 2, 3, 4, and 6 cylinder diesel engines.

On of the 6 cylinder engines used in the HD15 was a 426 ci 2 cycle.

I myself don't know that much about the GM diesel but I'm guessing it is a 6-71 with supercharger. I can't think of an Allis farm tractor that used it but I'm guessing the dozers used it the 6-71 was a pretty strong horse someone on here will know if not you might try the dozer crawler forum.

No farm tractors, but some 50s, etc crawlers used the jimmy diesels- the screamers- 2-3 cyl engines. I think the 71 series came out later, GM made a lot of them, don"t know about how many made it into construction equipment, but it was definitely earplug time ! Few years ago I ran a dragline with one of the "screaming jimmies" in the "house".
