Who can tell me about the C

My brother and I just went and picked up a little AC C this morning, and with it being below 0 this morning it fired up pretty quick in the guy's barn. He got it for $500, the tin is pretty good but it's fitted with a "custom" wide front off some other tractor, the guy suspected it was from a Case of some sort. He's only had it a couple months so he had no idea.

The engine had a few rattles in it, and I'm not sure if the guage by the filter didn't work or if it just wasn't picking up any oil. Either way, we'll have to check it out. It's got a 12v battery and 1 wire alternator on it and a magneto for the ignition. I did notice it had the shutters in front of the radiator yet.

I'll try to get some pictures some time, it'd be nice to figure out what that front end is actually from and if my brother wants to find a front end that is actually for the C.

Don -- make sure that the oil filter has the metal tube in place. Without it, you won't get any pressure.

A lot of people have made the mistake (myself included) of throwing away that tube when they change the filter.

Good little tractors. You do have to make sure it has the correct oil filter on it or it will have little or no oil pressure which isn't good. Common problem with Allis tractors. As far as the front end it should have a trike front under it. Now if you want a front end I have 2 of them laying around from 2 parts Cs that I have. Plus I have a good number of other parts also. One of my Cs has a front lift that I made from pictures that Rod sent me and it also has a 3 point that I built form stuff I had laying around

Most model C tractors had the tricycle front end, but a single front wheel, as well as an adjustable wide front axle, were options. Wide front was not arched like the B, but horizontal, like on the CA.

You guys wouldn"t happen to know the right filter # would you? Otherwise we could probably get one from the dealer next time we get parts for his 550- they used to sell AC as well so they should be able to help us. Right now it"s got a Fleet guard on it, but i can"t remember the number on it.

Don guess its your lucky day. I just built an engine for a guy for his C a couple weeks ago and I still have the filter box on hand. WIX 57011 is the correct one for it. Wix a few years ago had problems with the filters so they have since improved them to work as they should on the Alis tractors

Hey thanks Old. I'll have to pass along the information when I go over to help him on his 550 next time.

He's not sure what he wants to do with it yet, but he's thinking about doing a few minor things and possibly selling it to help finance the 550.

He also mentioned finding a belly mower for it and using it to mow around the pine trees along the edge of one of our fields.

Unscrew the gauge while running, see if any oil comes out. On that engine, if it"s been sitting a long time, you may need to prime the oil pump. Force some oil thru the line going down to the flywheel. We used to park ours over winter with no start-up problems. Also need the right filter to get pressure. They run only about 7-10 psi. Good little tractors, about 22 hp. I bought a non-runner this summer for $300, complete, loose, bad tires. Pretty good if you can find a nice runner for $500. Typical around here for one with average paint and sheet metal is about $900.
