What year could you get a UC with electric start? Iíve only really seem one and the owner said it was converted from a power unit. The starter was on the right side in the oil pan casting. Could you convert them to electric? Iím not an Allis Chalmers fan but they really interest me and would like to own one. Any information would be great.

Electric starters were an option all the way back to the S10 Continental engines. The UM engines also had the starter option from the beginning. But, how many were actually sold is anyone's guess. I do have a very early '35 U with the starter option.

I may need to be corrected, but I think after 1938, the starters came in to play.

Today's Featured Article - The Fordson F Ignition System - by Anthony West. A fellow restorer contacted me earlier this year asking for some help and advice on a model F that he was restoring. He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce ... [Read Article]
