D19 3PT Hitch

My neighbor has a D19 with a 2pt hitch. The hyd arms are all in place, but they won't go up and down. He wants to put a 3pt hitch on the tractor and was wondering if it is possible to utilize the existing 2pt with some extra linkage. First of all we need to get the arms to operate. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys, for your help in locating the serial number. It turned out to be on the top of the rear end, behind the seat.

Thanks John for the info on the Snap Coupler system. I have an IT manual on the tractor. It goes into detail about the overhaul procedure, but not the operation of it. I'll have to get an operators manual to fully understand the workings of it. One more thing - The service manual says the serial number is on the left front of the torque tube. I cant seem to find it. Is it a plate that is rivetted on? Maybe I'm not clear on what is referred to as the "torque tube." Is this the space between the bell housing and the transmission?

Serial number is on the top of the rear axle, below the seat and a little to the right if I`m not mistaken. It is stamped into the top of the housing and not on any sort of little plate. It can get covered with paint and dirt and stuff and be very hard to find and read

I think a D19 has the number stamped on the rear end. Mine has a number in both locations. If I go by the torque tube it's a 61'but the number on the rear end says it's a 62'.

You"re right in describing the torque tube. The number is stamped into the casting- the front end of the tube is the bell housing. The number is on the left side, about 10 oclock position, where the bell housing connects to the engine.

The Allis system is called Snap Coupler, an implement attaches at 3 points not 2, however Farmall and IH did make a 2 point system. The 2 lift arms and a snap coupler under the tractor are the attach points for a snap coupler system implement. On the AC system the snap coupler latch is what pulls the implement and the arms only serve to lift and sometimes stablize it. On the Fergie system, commonly called THREE POINT system, the lift arms do the pulling and the top link holds the implement in a position relative to the ground. That is likely more than you needed to know, except that if you try an buy a 3 point conversion for a 2 point system (Farmall/IH) you won`t get anything that will work on an Allis Chalmers snap coupler tractor. Yes you`ll need to get the hydraulics working. Have you got a operators manual? Sounds like you need one, and most likely a shop manual too. The problem can be the hydraulic pump, the plumbing or not knowing how to use it. Lot`s of people sell them, including AGCO.

Do a web search for "Cross Mfg 3 point conversions", you`ll find a number of people sell those also. There are other conversions, but in my opinion Cross makes the best ones. With theirs you still have use of the traction boost system and you can use snap coupler equipment (which in many ways is superior to 3 point) as well as hook up 3 point equipment.
