Were Buda engines used in the HD 19, 20 and 21 series dozers? If so, what is the description of the engines used in each series?

the 844 used in the 21C dozer was called a 21000 series. it was turbocharged. if you added an aftercooler we called it a 25000 series. that was used in a few scrapers and the 945B wheel loaders from Deerfield. The 844 was a very common motor that went from about 175 HP up to 400 HP over the years with updates and turbo, aftercooler, etc.

HD-16 used the Non-turbo version of the 844 CID Buda Engine, while the HD21 used the Turbo version, at least in the HD21A series.
I had the pleasure of operating a HD21A one summer. It was some machine! And just about the easiest starting diesel I've ever seen.

The Book "Allis Chalmers Construction Equipment"
available at Barnes & Noble-others, or your
library, lists the relationship. Allis used
Detroit Diesels until GM bought Terex and started
to compete in construction equipment. Allis, not
wanting to purchase engines from a competor, then
bought Buda, in 1953, after that, all allis diesels were Buda. 844 was Buda. They made up to a 1200 cubic inch V12.

THe HD19 used a General Motors 6 cylinder diesel. 426 cubic inches rated at 110.64 HP.

The HD20 used a General Motors 6 cylinder diesel. 660 cubic inches rated at 116.69 HP

The HD21 used an Allis Chalmers 6 cylinder diesel (4 stroke) 844 cubic inches rated at 135 to 147 hp depending on the model.
