How much trouble (expense) is it to replace a main bearing in a 190?

Tried to fix only the one problem and it cost more than if I did all the bearings at the same time. If one needs fixing all do,unless it was a rebuild and some one forgot to tighten the bolts. That happened to me once [and they put rod cap on backwards, I don't use them anymore] cost me a tractor

If you need A mian bearing replaced you most likily need the crank turned to. To do this you just as well major the engine. I.E. check the sleeves for holes and turn them 90 degrees so the area where the spark knock does the most cleaniing is moved. Install new sleeve O-sings, new cam bearings and new rings if the sleeves are usable. Rebuild the pump and injectors. Big job and expensive but DO IT RIGHT ONE TIME INSTEAD OF WRONG MANY TIMES.

Unless it is something very unusual, it will be more trouble and expense than the tractor is worth to put in "A" main bearing. Sorry! I am a bigot. If it needs "a" main, put in the entire set and the rods too. Once, it needs to be fixed properly. It might just as well be the first time than the third or fourth time. HTH. best, Yeoman
