D14 muffler

Recently I got my D14 running after sitting for 3 plus years, not bad for a guy with a degree. The tractor is inside the garage, and I am working on several items one of which is the muffler. I removed the remnants of the old muffler, and would like to put on the quietest possible muffler. I was considering putting on an adapter, and installing a muffler from a D15 thinking bigger muffler is quieter. I would rather not cut a hole in the tin, but would like to have my hearing 20 years from now.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Maybe adapt a Farmall muffler, H, M? I think most of the IH spec mufflers had a baffel in them, and were quite a bit quieter. My neighbor's IH C was quieter at full bore than my AC C was off idle with a Stanley tall muffler.

Or maybe it is just that Farmalls don't make enough power to make noise!! HE HE

I have two D-14 tractors, and I use Stanley mufflers from Fleet Farm. The noise level is not a problem, and I rake a lot of hay with my narrow front and power steering. They usually cost right around $20.

Nelson mufflers are great, but I don`t know that they are quieter than other brands. I don't think a D14 is very loud and certainly have not worried about my own hearing with regard to tractor mufflers. That said, I see a lot of people using earmuffs for all kinds of things these days, helmets too. Maybe life is more dangerous than it use to be, or maybe we have just learned how dangerous it really is... or maybe we just worry about more things.

Just recieved a new radiator for my AC B, from Tony & Barb. They were out of them last week when I called, and Tony busted his butt, to find me one, and get it to me. Great people, and great prices

D-15 muffler will not be appreciably quieter. The series I D-15 muffler is the same as the D-14, as they share the same motor. All adding the oval muffler will do, in my humble opinion is to make you chop up your sheet metal to install.

He could do like IH does. Put a pipe out the hood then put on the oval muffler on. Easy to get at the clamp. Just don't look as pretty.

That was my thought. I know that noise levels are reduced when the sound waves have to travet past barriers, kind of like waves over exposed reefs. The straight through muffler would then be louder than the oval if the oval is not straight through, and forces the noise from the explosion to go around corners.

Maybe this is overkill, but I have been exposed to loud noises, and would like to keep what is left of my hearing. Does anyone know if the oval muffler is actually NOT straight through?

Go to tonystractors.com. Get the Nelson muffler.
$20.00 more but worth it for the muffler and the experience of dealing with quality people like Tony & Barb.
