I have an AC-B S/N E39681. It has a WICO magneto on it also a Lucas Ign Coil. Someone said it is the wron Mag as it has a coil fitted to it, But there was an old posting on this site that said some of the AC-B's has a coil fitted as they just used the Magneto as a distributor. I Do not know the age of the Tractor as someone said it was a late 50's but looking at the S/No it looks like 39 to 40. I will try to get a picture to look at attached.

Richard, I still think you have a 1940 B, as the EB #'s didn't go that high I don't think....

If it is a B, then the correct mag would be a FMJ4B3. They are very sensitive to the damp. Which caused many in the UK to be discarded and replaced by Lucas (the prince of darkness)....
I traded an FMJ for a Lucas with my buddy Dave e., just because I wanted one that was a little different....

Looks like you have a older Wico or Wipac magneto in UK since you mentioned a Lucas coil. Lift that square cover and on top and that is where the original mag coil was or still might be. It went bad and someone just converted it to a battery distributor with external coil just using the mag as a distributor. A magneto doesn't need battery power generating a magnetic induced spark. If it's a Wico A or Wipac A the Wico C coil is the same to change it back to original mag but coils are about $60+. Scroll down to Wipac A magneto info...

What you have is a mag conversion to a distributor. All they do is use the mag points and condenser to turn it into a distributor which will work just fine.

I have a mag like what should be on that tractor. It does need to be rebuilt because the coil is bad but other then the coil and needing new points I think its in good shape. My e-mail is open if you want more info on it

Thanks to you all, I have an offer on a Lucas Mag, so i think i will go with that on as i live on the east coast of the UK AND ITS WET AND DAMP ALL THE TIME :-)

Make sure you note where the rotor is pointing when you pull the old mag and don't move the engine until you have new mag installed. Be sure to have the rotor pointing to the same place as on the old mag.

I would pull the mag if you don't use the tractor much and keep it in a dry place. I did that on an old tractor since I never used it in the winter. Hal
