D14 radiator coolant level

I was wondering what the coolant level should be for a 1960 D14. The operating manual says 9 quarts, but does not tell the level when full.

I recently got this tractor running, and when it first started, some of the coolant blew out. What would cause this to happen? I did a pressure test on the radiator, and it held pressure for an entire day. There is no water in the engine oil.

I was thinking about replacing the thermostat, as well as having the radiator cleaned, just to make sure everything stays cool.

Any advice would be appreciated.

When you first run the system it needs to have the air in the radiator bled. You do this by running the tractor for about 5 minutes without the radiator cap on. If you don't do this then you can run low on coolant or you will have some coolant come out the overflow because of the air.

if you filled the radiator to the top, some will blow out as it expands. you will always the level to be about 3" below the top. Bob
