I had a very bad experience back in the 1990s when insurance was required for 2 years, we had that flood year where I got less than 1/2 a crop. My 'agent' had talked me into upping my coverage because it would cover so much more of my crop. When I stopped in with my bad crops, he basically laughed at me, handed me a pink sheet of paper, and left me on my way.
After doing some calculating with his additional info that he hadn't mentioned before, it turns out my $8 an acre coverage would only pay out $16.80 if I had zero harvest on my entire crop.
Some of the easiest money those fellas could make back then, just fall in with the govt and laugh at people, I guess whatever makes you the big bucks.
Fool me once, I guess I've had a very dim view of crop insurance people since.
Perhaps poor of me, I should not judge all based on one person/ company but it was not a good experience at all, one to remember.
