Looking for advise for some new brome hay I planted last fall. Due to dry weather I didn't get much of a stand before winter. Now, with all the rain and snow I have a pretty good stand, but it is also full of cheat. I am sure it is because of the drought type weather we have had the last couple or three years. Looks like the rain brought up cheat that the seed has probably been just laying in waiting for. Most are having the same problem with cheat in our wheat as well. My question to anyone who might have some experience with new brome is this: should I rotary mow the brome (full of cheat) now, and try to get the cheat before the seeds are ready? I think maybe by next year the brome should choke the cheat out, but right now it's a mess. The brome would not be ready to cut for about a couple of weeks, but I don't want the cheat to go to seed I would think. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks - Bob
