If a person playing the break or lead role is out of time its like trying to follow a drunk and whats worse is a person who sings out of time grrrrrrrrrr. When I started my son (Chad Nordhoff www.myspace.com/chadnordhoff) told me if I stay in time and hit the rights chords people dont mind letting a beginner play but if not they will be leaving the jam and going to lunch etc lol
Keep encouraging and supporting him as Im sure you already are, music is a gift that can bring joy
