I'm in the process of restoring my Oliver 550. The next step is the painting. Have never painted a tractor before and am looking for advice. I plan to strip all the sheetmetal off and take it to a body man to remove the minor dings and dents. Since I don't have a means to sandblast I plan to use a wire wheel in an L head grinder to clean up the cast iron. Of course removing any grease and dirt first. Then a coat of primer-sealer followed by a coat of primer-sander. Then sand it real good and apply 2 coats of acrylic enamel with a hardener. Same with the sheetmetal except no wire wheel. I plan to remove the tires and get the wheels sandblasted because they are extremely rusty from the calcium chloride with I had removed last year. Have a 1hp air compressor and a fairly good spray gun. Is this the right approach? Just looking for advise from those who have been there. Sorry to ramble.
