I don't disagree with you about some people's reasons for buying small farm tractors. On the other hand: I don't have a horse barn. I don't know that I'm a yuppie (for one thing, I don't even have a BA). I do have a rather large yard (got to choose between two lots, one big, one with a little better view -- I took the larger one). I've a small farm tractor with a mower deck. Just seems like a $2000 2N with a $1000 mower deck is a better value than just about any of the "Lawn" or "Garden" tractors. (Some of those prices can really make your head swim!)
