Please accept my sympathies, and know I really am sorry for the loss of your friend. We lost two of ours in just a few days about eighteen months ago. The first, a fourteen year old Chocolate Lab, was sent to heaven, with the help of our vet. She was just to old and crippled up to go through another summers heat. The second, my eighteen month old English Shepherd cow dog, was hit on the road by a neighbor, and thankfully died within minutes. I've always loved and enjoyed every dog we've ever had, but honestly didn't think I could become so attached to one as I had that one. I still get choked up and teary eyed thinking about certain moments I had with that dog. I did get and start another cow dog pup, closely related to the first one, a short time after. But despite the fact that I love him too, and he's actually making a better cow dog than the first one, he'll never replace her, or the relationship we had. And as others here have stated, I believe too that they truly do have souls, and truly do go to heaven. How can they give us so much unconditional love, and not go to be with God, when they leave us? I've no doubt, they're there, smiling and wagging their tails, waiting for our arrival. :)
