My father and his ancestors were all Masons. I remember my Dad had the Fez, the sword and sheath for it, and various other accouterments, when he died. We also had his sword, and his father's sword and other things. Dad belonged to "The Islam Grotto", here in Pittsburgh, Pa. I think my Mother gave the swords, or sold them, to the masons. When i got out of the Army in WW II, i had lost my left foot from a war injury, so that precluded me from entering the Masons, in this area! Dad was upset, but the rules in this area were set in stone, and i didn't get in. So, i made my own way without their help! I have had many friends who were and are Masons, and it doesn't bother me that i couldn't join, and now the thought of joining is far from my mind! Later on in life, i was told--if i would go to the east coast to one of the towns there, they weren't so tough on the rules, and would take me in, but i thanked them and stayed home. I had to work and had a lot of expenses that took a lot of our money to keep current on, so i gave it up.
