When I was a kid, the neighbor told us that whenhe was on a boyscout camping trip, it got so cold that the flame froze up on the campfire and they had to go home. Got halfway home and had to go back and bury the fire so it wouldn't thaw out and start a forest fire.
He said that tractors didn't have heaters so when it got so cold they'd turn on the AC to warm up.
