hi there

If you are planning stock pulling I think the Super M is a pretty good tractor to start pulling with. Though a lot depends on the classes you plan on running. Our plain stock 1946 M usually can out pull the Super M in the 6400 and 7400 lb. classes. In the 6400 lb. the Super M seems to have a little too much power and spins out too fast, in the 7400 lb. calss the super M and the M are closer but depending on the track the old M can usually take the Super. This is with 13.6X38 tires on the M. The Supers around these pulls have 15.5X38 tires. I don't know if true or not but have been told that the older M's had a lower geared transmission then the newer Super M's and thats why the old M can out pull the Supers. This was told to me by a guy that we always beat that owned a Super M. I don't know about this for sure myself. We have never had the M over 7400lb class, don't think it would have the horsepower to compete against the bigger tractors.

Oliver 88 or super 88 are very good pulling tractors in the higher classes in our area. Super MTA are also good pulling if they are shifted right. Don't know if the rules in your area would allow that but in our area pulling at the small fairs there really aren't any rules except for weight. Unless a obviously none stock tractor pulls then all the other pullers become very unhappy and that tractor goes to open class or nobody else pulls.

Good Luck with your pulling

Terry

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
