WD's are not inferior to WD45's. They are lower horsepower and have a few other differences but are basically the same tractor. The curved shifter with it's constant mesh transmission came in 1952 at serial number 127008. Some people prefer the WD transmission. The WD45 production began with serial number 146607 and is marked by the itroduction of the 226 cu in engine rated at 43.21 belt horsepower vs. the WD at 34.63 belt horsepower. The 201 cu in WD engine can be brought up to WD45 specs by changing the crankshaft stroke to 4.5 inches. In most circles the WD45 will bring a few hundred more dollars than a WD, but not always. Condition is everything, and a good strong WD is every bit the tractor that a WD45 is.
