first off, you need permission before you start messing with it. It was pretty bold of you to do what you've already done. Plugs are not all that expensive at $2-$3 a piece, and you only need 4, but you might get by with just cleaning up the old ones on a bench grinder with a wire wheel brush on it, or use a piece of sand paper to clean all the rust and carbon deposits. The gas is alittle old and probably has started varnishing pretty bad at this point, so draining the tank would be good and cleaning the settlement bowl. Taking the carb off and cleaning it would be a good idea, but be super carful not to lose any of the parts and make sure to clean out all the little ports in there. Yes, it might not have any ignition, but try the above first and you'll probably start it.
Oh, and yank that old ruined battery and put in a known good one, trying to start something with a ruined battery by jumping doesn't work very good and the others are right about a lawn tractor battery not having enough Oomph. Make sure and check the oil and radiator before you start it so you don't ruin the engine, and if you do get it started, change the oil before running it for too long.
