May I jump in on this conversation please? The general recommendation on a dual dry element air cleaner service is to clean the outer element only when the restriction light comes on, to prevent overservicing and blowing holes in it. Then replace the outer after x amount of cleanings or when you notice dirt on the inner filter (indicating a hole in the outer). It is not recommended to clean the inner because of risk of blowing holes in it. As for valve adjustment, I am a STRONG believer in running the valves initially within the first 500 hours, as it has been my experience that the valves on some engines can move around quite a bit during break in. The price one can pay for waiting until 2000 hours or even longer is camshaft wear, compounded by even faster wear as the valves consequently get even looser, leading to eventual camshaft failure. Do very many people do this? No-one I know. Most people just follow steps 1,2,3, hop on it and go till she goes no more!
