Someone at work recently mentioned that scrap steel was over $300/ton. I am uncertain that this is correct, although at one time this last summer it was over $200/ton. Skepticism reigns because I had heard a while back that China was backing off on imports. This caused the price to slip slightly from the $200+ level. However since that time, China reopened the gates but I didn't think it had that much effect on the price. In contrast, I do know OEM steel prices are very high and it is difficult to increase the size of your order.
