: I posted this before and seems it got lost.

: I'm told a Mazda 197x car engine is the same as the one

: and model Mazda? Would the alternator also be the same as
: the Mazda?

: thanks,

I have a Satoh S650-G that came with a repair manual for the S550-G that also lists all the specifications for the S650-G. It states that the engine is a Mazda Model PB 60.2 cu in(987cc). I have tried to track this engine down through several parts distributors (tractor, automotive, and industrial) but have had no luck. The Stull Company in PA can get new parts but at $500 for a water pump, $165 for a piston, $218 for a sleeve, and $350 for a ring set it is rather outrageous. A complete overhaul would run about $4000. Seems like this engine was used only in this tractor and in some forklifts. I found one industrial fork lift company who used to have complete new engines but they had sold the last one. When you cross reference the oil filther to current applications the only match is with early model (early 70's) Honda engines of around 1.2 liters. I am trying to chase this down to see if Honda may have used a small Mazda engine at that time or if it is just coincidental that the filter is used on both engines. I also have Lucas part numbers for the ignition components that I am trying to trace back to an alternate application. Will keep you posted.

Today's Featured Article - Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects. ... [Read Article]
