the 40 final drives will fit a 420 just fine, but i would use them. the 40 final drive castings were pretty weak. so most of them cracked or broke. the 420 casting were made stronger by casting in a couple of brases in them. they look like a couple of splines goin out from the center. if you have a good 40 casting them i would sell it since the people doin 40"s are always lookin for them an buy a couple of 420 casting. i just did a 40 crawler an i found good castings in california. they were not cheap an they were just as costly to ship back to ia. just my 2 cents worth johndeeregene
