Well, can't be a 971 if your date is right, they came out later. Industrial Fords were often, tho not always, yellow. Is it red & white white, or red & grey? Does that look like original paint, or was it repainted? You say the serial # is on a tag; but Ford had the numbers stamped (not cast!) right into the cast metal of the bell housing (flywheel housing) lobe on the left side of the tractor. They did not use a seperate 'tag'. So, where is the tag located? And how do you know it's a 1954? Ford made Forson Major; NAA; 600, 700, 800, & 900 series tractors in 1954. So, how many gears does it have forward? Does it have one or 2 wheels real close centered in the front of the tractor, or are the 2 front wheels wide apart like the rear wheels? Do the fenders say 'Ford" on them anywhere? International Harvester used an "I" as the first digit on a lot of their tracotrs, but I don't regignise those numbers either as any IH model, they only made a Cub, Super- series of lettered tractors, and the new 100, 200, 300, & 400 tractors in 1954. They had a shorter serial number like you list & an actual tag as well.... Please keep us informed, you really have me curious. :)

Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a
