I don't know the exact reason for the change other than the vane pumps were proving to be troublesome. Maybe you're experiencing the reason first-hand. The change was made just prior to the end of the '55 model year at serial number 66849.* *According to Ford Shop Manual Supplement SE 6086-1-115510, Hydraulic Piston Pump, page 4.
