I live in a metro area of over a million folks. My dad bought 300 acres for 12.50 an acre in 1951, the year I was born. Dad was a Doctor and he had the farm for a tax write off. When the tax codes changed he got out of the dairy, chicken, and beef business. I have the farm now and enjoy working 40 acres of it but I don't have the know how to make a living on it. I make a small profit because I don't have to make payments on the land or the equipment. I lease 240 acres to my neighbor and he can't seem to make a go of it. My Dad always told me the sure way to make a small fortune FARMING is to start with a large fortune. My neighbor is not going to renwew his lease and I have decided to plant pine trees on the place. We planted trees on 20 acres in 1960 and I sold the timber last year for 3,000 an acre. Good luck, hope you make it.
