9N's came from the factory with a non-pressurized cooling system without a thermostat. One of the improvements when they went to the 2N in '42 was going to a pressure system with a 'stat. you can put later style radiators into any flathead as long as you put the thermostat into the upper hose. Non pressure systems have the "ears" that go inside the fill tube, pressure system radiators have the cap ears going on the outside of the tube.
