RTW,
First, let me apologize for being long winded, but this is something that I have a real problem with. Being serious for a minute, I've been told all my life, however short that is(I'm only 21), that only fools farm and try to make money. These very same people have been farming all their life, and I'm not talking about other 21 year old's, more like 50 and 60 year old's. Maybe it's just me, but does this seem a little odd. Maybe they do it becuase of the hard work, maybe they do it just so they can walk around manure up to their knee's, or maybe they do it just so they spend all kinds of money on grown up toys, but I don't buy it. Somebody is buying a whole lot of new NH 565 square balers for somewhere around $11,000, depending on where you are. Now keep in mind that this is the smallest square baler that NH makes and it is for the "family farm". I guess it must be a real big family so's that everybody can chip in on it, since there is nobody is making any money. I'm not saying that you can get rich, but I do believe that you can make a honest living. And be satisfied that you earned. Maybe I'm wrong and time will tell. I just took over about 120 acres in east Kentucky and granted, I have already spent over $4000 dollars on equipment that is a whole heck of a lot older than me, but I do beleive that in time, I'll be satisfied with my investment. Again, sorry for the long post, I just don't understand how everybody can say don't do it, and then turn around and do it themselves. Casey

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
