I too think that this fuel price thing is ridiculous. I am a self-employed plumber and have to do alot of driving. I can't simply cut back on the amount of mile that I drive each week - or I'll soon be out of a job. The PVC pipe, the glue, the primer, and other materials that I have to buy are all products that are made from petroleum products. Everytime that gas prices go up you can bet that plumbing products will soon follow.

Our county ( Allen County Ohio ) brag about all the new jobs that have be created around here. Many, many of the good paying jobs have left due to military cutbacks, and dear old Mexico and China. All these new jobs are in the retail indusrty - the new Super WalMart, the new restaurant, etc. all paying min. wages and if you're lucky you get to work full time. How do these people even afford to live?

While I'm at it another thing that really hack's me off is we have a refinery here ( Lima, Ohio ). We always have higher gas prices than cities 2 hours away. They have to haul the fuel a whole 5 - 10 miles to the gas station. It must be cheaper to haul it 120 miles? We have to put up with all that black smoke, the stench, and sometimes the crap that falls from the sky near the refinery. Of course we are reasured that it is all harmless and poses no danger to our lungs. The least they could do is sell us fuel 10 cents a gallon less instead of 10 cents more.

Well I guess y'all know how I feel now. DaveH

Today's Featured Article - Harvestin Hay: The Early Years (Part 2) - by Pat Browning. The summer of 1950 was the start of a new era in farming for our family. I was thirteen, and Kathy (my oldest sister) was seven. At this age, I believed tractor farming was the only way, hot stuff -- and given a chance I probably would have used the tractor, Dad's first, a 1936 Model "A" John Deere, to go bring in the cows! And I think Dad was ready for some automation too. And so it was that we acquired a good, used J. I. Case, wire tie hay baler. In addition to a person to drive th ... [Read Article]
