Justin - It's just the opposite. The #2 or sense wire should be connected as CLOSE as possible to the battery "+" post. This way the regulator can compensate for voltage loss in all the wiring, terminals, ammeter, etc. between the alternator and the battery. On GM cars that use the 10SI the end of the sense wire is molded right into the battery positive terminal. Connecting the sense wire to the alternator "BAT" terminal is merely wiring a shortcut. A good alternative on an alternator conversion is to connect the sense wire to the hot side of the starter switch or solenoid.
